The Provincial Government of Batanes launched a training program for Managing Heads (MH) and Pollution Control Officers (PCO) on October 26, 2026, to strengthen environmental compliance and promote sustainable practices among government agencies and private establishments.
The training, held at the Human Resource Training Center in Basco, Batanes, gathered 75 participants, exceeding the initial target of 40.
Governor Jun Aguto attended the opening ceremony and expressed appreciation to the organizers, trainers, and participants for their commitment to preserving the province’s natural environment.
Maria Rhodina Barsana Aguto, representing the Provincial Heritage and Tourism Office (PHTO), also welcomed the participants and acknowledged the Philippine Center for Environmental Awareness and Sustainability (PCEAS) for supporting the provincial government’s cost-sharing arrangement.
The partnership aims to make environmental training more affordable and accessible to local stakeholders while strengthening their knowledge of pollution prevention and environmental regulations.
Participants in the Managing Head training received their certificates of completion on the first day, while Pollution Control Officer trainees will undergo a five-day program until October 30.
The provincial government emphasized that the initiative goes beyond regulatory compliance by encouraging responsible environmental management and sustainable development.
The training forms part of efforts to equip local institutions and establishments with the knowledge and skills needed to protect Batanes’ natural heritage.
