Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte is reportedly getting ready for the much-talked-about boxing showdown against Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.

Social media lit up recently when a video surfaced showing a man—believed to be Baste Duterte—trading punches with a sparring partner in a boxing ring. The clip, uploaded by a Facebook user named “Кэрри Мэтисон,” was captioned with a cheeky question: “MADAYON SA DOMINGGO? BALE 100k ko miski wa ko anang kwartaha, sure win.” Translation: “Will it happen this Sunday? I’m putting 100k on this even if I don’t have that kind of money—sure win!”

While the authenticity and timing of the video remain unverified, it has sparked wild speculation that Baste is training for his much-hyped face-off with Torre. His camp has yet to confirm whether the video is recent or if it’s related to the challenge at all.

Still, the internet isn’t waiting for confirmation. Wagers are already being thrown around. Some are backing the tattooed Duterte heir, banking on his rugged toughness. Others are siding with the PNP Chief, citing discipline, strategy, and formal training.

The challenge began after Baste criticized Torre, saying he’s only “brave because of his position.” Torre responded swiftly, accepting the dare—but with a twist. He wants the fight to be a charity boxing match to benefit victims of Typhoon Crising and recent flooding.

“This could be an opportunity to raise funds for those in need,” Torre said in an interview. “Let’s do it this Sunday, July 27, at Araneta Coliseum. Twelve rounds. A real fight—for a real cause.”

He added, “If this is what he wants, then I’ll give it to him. But let’s make it meaningful.”

Whether it’s real animosity or just a dramatic way to rally charity funds, the hype is real. The public wants answers, the fans want action, and social media wants the bell to ring.

Will it be fists for fame—or fists for a cause? Either way, Sunday’s looking like a knockout event.
