Bacolod opens free night co-working hub amid power outage

Bacolod City has launched a free nighttime co-working space to assist online workers affected by the ongoing power outage following Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi).

Mayor Greg Gasataya announced that starting Wednesday, the Bacolod City Government Center will serve as an extended co-working hub from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. daily until electricity is restored.

“We know these past days have been incredibly challenging, especially for virtual assistants and online workers. Here, you can continue your work comfortably and securely amid the ongoing challenges brought by the recent typhoons,” Gasataya said.

The facility can accommodate up to 100 users — 40 voice workers and 60 non-voice workers. During the day, workers may use the Youth Lounge in Ayala Capitol Central, which operates until 6:30 p.m.

“To make sure you have a safe and reliable place to stay connected even after hours, we are opening the Bacolod City Government Center lobby as its nighttime extension,” he added.

Online workers must pre-register before using the facility.

Meanwhile, Gasataya said Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) and major telecommunications companies are working with the city government to expedite the restoration of power and internet connectivity. “This is a concerted effort to expedite the restoration of power and internet connectivity in our city,” he said.
