Bacolod City plans to expand its Community Fire Auxiliary Groups to more barangays as part of Fire Prevention Month activities.

Currently, only 16 of the city’s 61 barangays have active CFAGs, according to data from the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Fire Officer Paul Servano, public information officer of BFP-Bacolod, said the agency continues to coordinate with barangays to conduct training sessions for volunteers.

He added that the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office assists by providing training materials and other logistical support.

CFAG training typically lasts three to five days, depending on the number of participants, Servano said.

On Thursday, Barangay Tangub won the CFAG barangay category at the first Mayor Greg Fire and Rescue Olympics, an event aimed at strengthening community fire response skills.

The competition included challenges such as the Fire Hose Down Challenge, Bucket Relay, Emergency Medical Challenge, and Tug of War. Ayala Malls Capitol won the company category, while Mansilingan Agro Industrial High School took the school category.

Mayor Greg Gasataya said the initiative promotes teamwork, readiness, and a culture of excellence, while City Fire Marshal Jenny Mae Masip emphasized that saving lives remains the top priority.
