Authorities have issued a warning to the public about “task scams” circulating through messaging apps, where victims are assigned tasks in exchange for cash, only to be persuaded to “invest” their money for quick profits.
In a report on Thursday’s 24 Oras, Darlene Cay shared the story of victim “Bea,” who lost P9,800 in an investment, most of which she had borrowed. Bea recounted how she was encouraged to send money via a digital link after witnessing quick profits from her initial investment.
Unfortunately, after sending a larger amount, Bea found that her money was never returned, and the person she was transacting with subsequently blocked her.
Another victim, Pearl, reported losing P38,000 through the same scam scheme. Authorities continue to urge caution and vigilance against such fraudulent activities.
