ILOILO CITY – Several Asian countries gathered in Iloilo City to strengthen regional cooperation in higher education, expand student exchange opportunities, and develop strategies to address the changing educational landscape driven by emerging technologies.

The discussions took place during the 20th Annual Review Meeting of the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Programme on October 14 at the Sotogrande Hotel in Jaro, Iloilo City.

The AIMS Programme is a regional initiative designed to promote student mobility and academic collaboration among participating Asian countries.

Through the program, students can pursue educational opportunities abroad in selected academic disciplines while developing intercultural understanding, professional competencies, and global perspectives.

Co-organized with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the annual gathering brought together higher education policymakers, academic institutions, and international stakeholders to review progress and explore opportunities for stronger regional partnerships.

The meeting also provided a platform for exchanging educational practices and discussing strategies to ensure that higher education systems remain responsive to technological advancements and evolving workforce demands.

The initiative aligns with the Philippines’ priorities under its 2026 ASEAN chairship, which emphasizes practical, inclusive, and measurable regional programs that deliver benefits to Southeast Asian communities.

In her keynote address, CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening higher education while maintaining academic excellence.

Agrupis emphasized the importance of adapting educational programs to the changing needs of students and employers without compromising quality and academic standards.

The gathering highlighted the participating countries’ continuing efforts to expand international academic cooperation and equip students with the knowledge and skills needed in an increasingly interconnected world.
