The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported that African swine fever (ASF) cases remain significantly lower compared to the same period in 2024, despite a slight increase this August. Data from the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) showed that ASF-affected villages rose to 51 as of Aug. 7 from 28 on July 11.
DA spokesperson Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa said the current figure is still far below last year’s level when ASF resurgence hit several areas in Batangas during the third quarter. He noted that the risk of a resurgence this year is less likely due to stricter border measures and the rollout of government-controlled vaccination.
Most of the affected areas are in Bohol, while other cases were recorded in the Cordillera, Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Eastern Visayas regions.
