MANILA – The Philippine Army highlighted its growing defense ties with Australia after Army commander Lt. Gen. Donald Gumiran joined the Land Forces International Land Defense Exposition in Perth, Western Australia.

In a statement Thursday, the Army said Gumiran met with military leaders and defense professionals during his visit to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday.

The three-day event, held from Oct. 6 to 8, brings together defense, government, industry, academic and technology leaders from Australia and other countries to strengthen cooperation on national and regional security.

The Army said Gumiran’s participation underscored the Philippine Army’s role as a reliable international partner in advancing regional peace and security.

It added that the service continues to prioritize modernization, adaptation and capability development as part of its goal to become a world-class organization.

Meanwhile, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete reiterated the military’s commitment to strengthening the capabilities of the Northern Luzon Command during a visit to Camp Servillano Aquino in Tarlac City on Wednesday.

“The AFP remains committed to supporting NOLCOM and its personnel in strengthening their capabilities and readiness while recognizing those who exemplify excellence in service,” Nafarrete said.

He added that sustained leadership, professional troops and effective coordination remain central to the AFP’s mandate to protect the Filipino people and safeguard the country.
