At least six people were killed on Sunday in northern Nigeria’s Niger State after armed attackers stormed several villages, authorities said.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said about 200 assailants carried out coordinated attacks in the Borgu area, targeting homes and local facilities.
Abiodun added that many residents were injured or abducted during the assaults, and a police station along with multiple homes were set on fire.
Some local media reports put the death toll at 32, but police confirmed six fatalities so far.
The attacks are part of ongoing violence in Nigeria, where armed gangs and terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and ISWAP, continue to threaten communities in the northern regions.
Kidnapping for ransom remains a frequent tactic, even though it carries the death penalty under Nigerian law.
Villages, schools, and travelers are often targeted by these armed groups to demand payments from families and local authorities.
Authorities said security operations are ongoing in the affected areas to rescue victims, apprehend suspects, and restore order.
