In preparation for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, NCRPO acting regional director PMGen. Signey Hernia led a comprehensive inspection on October 31, 2024, with District Directors and Chiefs of Police to transport terminals and cemeteries across Metro Manila. The inspection underscored the need for practical, on-the-ground security protocols to adapt to the high volume of travelers and visitors anticipated during the observance of Undas.
The areas they inspected were Five Star Bus Terminal on EDSA, Quezon City; Manila North Cemetery on Bonifacio Avenue, Santa Cruz, Manila; Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) in Brgy. Tambo, Parañaque City; and NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City.
Hernia reiterated the NCRPO’s commitment to public safety, directing officers to maintain vigilant patrols, assist citizens, and reinforce the police’s presence in crowded areas. “Maganda naman ang naging resulta ng ating pag-iikot, yung deployment ng ating personnel ay naaayon sa ating deployment plan at nakikita naman sa ating regional monitoring center na maayos. We are just going down to validate kung yung nakikita ba natin sa ating monitoring system ay the same sa mga nangyayari on the ground,” he said.
The inspection also evaluated crime prevention strategies, particularly in addressing common threats such as ‘akyat-bahay’ incidents and other potential disruptions during the holiday. The NCRPO has deployed more than 12,000 police officers and activated protocols to deter these threats and enhance community safety.
The NCRPO encourages the public to remain alert, promptly report suspicious activities through the PNP LERIS platform or to nearby officers, and adhere to all safety advisories. “Operational na po ang ating PNP LERIS, ang ginagawa po natin ngayon ay we are trying to cascade na maintindihan at magamit ng taong bayan itong ating bagong sistema,” said Hernia.
Further, the NCRPO Chief reminded the public to avoid bringing prohibited items such as sharp and pointed objects, firearms, and lighters when visiting cemeteries. He encourages the public to leave behind prohibited items to ensure a peaceful and safe commemoration of Undas.
