Johnny Arcilla kept his title bid alive in the 42nd Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships, dominating Miguel Iglupas, 6-3, 6-0, on Tuesday at the PCA indoor shell court in Paco, Manila.
Chasing a record 11th PCA men’s singles crown, Arcilla cruised into the third round where he will face Ronard Joven, who earlier dispatched Lucien Jay Caiman, 6-2, 6-2.
Top seed and defending champion Albert Lim Jr. also advanced after crushing Mark Anthony Alcoseba, 6-0, 6-0, to set up a duel with Eric Jay Tangub, a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Al Tristan Licayan. Second seed Jed Olivarez likewise booked a seat in the next round after routing qualifier Sebastian Santos, 6-2, 6-0. He will next meet Josshua Kinaadman, who toppled Noel Damian, 6-2, 6-1.
Thailand’s Tanakorn Srirat joined the winners’ circle, eliminating Jerimiah Latorre, 6-2, 6-3, to move into the third round alongside fellow wild card Iggy Pantino.
Qualifier James Aquino pulled off a hard-fought victory over John Kendrick Bona, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, while seasoned campaigner Elbert Anasta, Fritz Verdad, Alexis Acabo, Nilo Ledama, Lance Jacob Fernandez, Marco Macalintal, and John Benedict Aguilar also booked their tickets to the next phase of the tournament.
