Veteran Johnny Arcilla kept his title bid alive in the 42nd Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships, dispatching Miguel Iglupas, 6-3, 6-0, Tuesday at the PCA indoor shell court in Manila.
Arcilla, seeking a record 11th PCA crown, moved into the third round where he will face Ronard Joven, who beat Lucien Jay Caiman, 6-2, 6-2.
Top seed and defending champion Albert Lim Jr. also cruised past Mark Anthony Alcoseba, 6-0, 6-0, to arrange a clash with Eric Jay Tangub, who ousted Al Tristan Licayan, 6-1, 6-2.
Second seed Jed Olivarez advanced as well, dominating qualifier Sebastian Santos, 6-2, 6-0. He will next face Josshua Kinaadman, a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Noel Damian.
Thailand’s Tanakorn Srirat downed Jerimiah Latorre, 6-2, 6-3, to join fellow wild card Iggy Pantino in the next round.
Other players who advanced include qualifier James Aquino, Elbert Anasta, Fritz Verdad, Alexis Acabo, Nilo Ledama, Lance Jacob Fernandez, Marco Macalintal, and John Benedict Aguilar.
