SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The provincial government here has allocated PHP5 million for this year’s sports meet, set from Dec. 5 to 8.
Department of Education Division of Antique Sports Coordinator, Dr. Oliver Servillon, on Thursday said the allocation for the Antique Provincial Athletic Association Meet (APAAM) increased from last year’s PHP4.5 million.
Around 5,000 student-athletes are expected to compete in 27 sports from last year’s 24, with the addition of kickboxing, karatedo and soft tennis on the list of events.
The meal allocation for around 450 technical sports officials also increased to PHP500 per meal from PHP400.
The provincial government likewise factored in the impact of the energy crisis in coming up with a higher budget.
“We have started the procurement for the needed sports equipment, uniforms of the technical sports officials, and other needed logistics,” Servillon said in an interview.
The organizer has already identified gymnasiums of Barangay (village) San Pedro and Barangay II, Robinsons Place, Citi Mall, University of Antique, Sibalom Plaza, and St. Anthony’s College as venues for the events.
Servillon added that athletes are reminded to avoid practicing under the heat of the sun, although practices are usually held in the afternoon. (PNA)
