The Dallas Mavericks provided an update on Anthony Davis’ recovery, stating that the forward, acquired in a high-profile trade for Luka Dončić last month, is improving daily.
However, the team did not specify when the 10-time All-Star might return to action.
A recent evaluation of Davis’ left adductor strain revealed progress, allowing him to be cleared for more dynamic on-court movements. Despite the positive signs, the Mavs stopped short of providing a timeline for his return.
Davis has played only one game for Dallas since the seismic trade on February 2, which sent the five-time All-Star Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. His lone appearance with the Mavs came in a 116-105 victory over Houston on February 8, where he posted 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks before suffering the injury in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks continue to monitor center Dereck Lively II, who has been sidelined since mid-January due to a right ankle stress fracture. Lively is progressing through his rehabilitation and has begun individual court work.
Both Lively and Davis will undergo weekly evaluations as the team assesses their readiness.
The Mavs game against Memphis on Friday marked the 11th consecutive game Davis has missed with Dallas, leaving the team with 18 regular-season games remaining.
Since acquiring Dončić, the Lakers have been on a hot streak, winning nine of their first 11 games, including an eight-game win streak.
In another injury update, Mavericks center Daniel Gafford missed his 10th game on Friday due to a right knee sprain. The team indicated Gafford is showing signs of progress and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
