Former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, who was recently convicted of qualified human trafficking, was transferred late Friday night to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.
The transfer operation saw Guo moved from the Pasig City Jail Female Dormitory, along with co-accused Rachel Joan Carreon and Jamielyn Cruz.
A convoy, led by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Special Tactics and Response Team, arrived at the CIW facility at approximately 10:16 p.m.
The individuals were officially turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) shortly after.
Jail Senior Inspector JM Sabeniano, spokesperson for BJMP NCR, confirmed the move was executed in compliance with a court order and only after Guo had completed the necessary medical and laboratory examinations, including an X-ray, which is standard operating procedure before any Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) is moved to a correctional facility.
Sabeniano explained that the decision to conduct the transfer late on a Friday night was primarily due to “security concerns” and to prevent “unnecessary inconvenience to the public on the roads,” especially ahead of a long weekend.
Guo, whose mayorship was voided earlier this year, was convicted in connection with the operations of an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub located within the Baofu compound in Bamban, Tarlac.
Upon her arrival at the CIW, Guo is scheduled to undergo booking procedures and a subsequent medical evaluation before she is transferred to the Reception Diagnostics Center for observation.
