Filipina tennis star Alex Eala left Manila after a whirlwind week that gave Filipino fans the opportunity to see the country’s pride up close and personal in several brand events during a much-needed break following her historic run in Wimbledon.
The 21-year-old Eala is now off to train seriously for the tour’s hardcourt swing.
Now ranked 29th in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), the Quezon City lass is turning her full attention to the final stretch of the season leading up to the United States Open which is the last Grand Slam of the year.
Her first stop will be at Washington DC, where she is set to compete at the star-studded Mubadala DC Open from July 27 to August 2. She will also team up again with Venus Williams in the doubles draw after the two first partnered at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany during this grass court season.
Eala concluded a brief homecoming in Manila and flew back to the US to kick off the hard-court swing ahead of the US Open.
Before leaving, she expressed deep gratitude to her supporters and reaffirmed her commitment to making her country proud.
In multiple fan events and media interviews, Eala expressed how much the support of her kababayans fuels her drive, stating that she is “only getting started” in her pursuit of Grand Slam milestones.
After the US hard-court swing, she plans to participate in tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati as she fine-tunes her game for the US Open.
