In a flavorful twist to international business, the Jollibee Group hosted Alberta’s Agriculture and Irrigation Minister RJ Sigurdson at its Manila headquarters to explore exciting opportunities for growth in Canada—specifically in Alberta, one of the country’s fastest-rising provinces.
Joined by Deputy Minister Jason Hale and key representatives from Alberta’s Indo-Pacific Hub and the Canadian Embassy, Sigurdson’s visit aimed to build commercial bridges with one of the fastest-expanding global food service brands. The meeting centered around the possibility of expanding Jollibee’s footprint across Alberta, where the brand has already made notable inroads.
“We see Canada—especially Alberta—as a promising frontier for our growth,” said Joseph Tanbuntiong, CEO of Jollibee Group Philippines. “Our presence in North America is gaining momentum, and we’re eager to bring our iconic flavors to even more communities. This visit reaffirms our commitment to contributing to the local economy and spreading joy, one meal at a time.”
Jollibee currently operates 28 stores across Canada, eight of which are already delighting customers in Alberta’s key cities including Edmonton, Calgary, and Red Deer. Last year, the company celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its 100th North American store in British Columbia.
Minister Sigurdson, in turn, emphasized Alberta’s strengths—not only in agriculture but also in sustainability and innovation in food production.

“Alberta is more than just a land of opportunity—we’re a province built on agricultural excellence and forward-thinking solutions,” Sigurdson shared. “Collaborating with a global brand like Jollibee presents a real chance to bring mutual benefits and cultural connection between our two regions.”
Also present at the meeting were high-ranking trade and business officials including John McDonald of Alberta’s Indo-Pacific Hub, Kelvin Kho from Alberta Agriculture Singapore, and representatives from the Canadian Embassy in the Philippines, who expressed optimism over the potential synergy between Alberta’s agri-food sector and Jollibee’s growing global operations.
As Jollibee continues its rapid North American expansion, its efforts in Canada represent more than just business growth—they’re part of a broader mission to connect cultures through food. And with Alberta opening the door for deeper collaboration, a tastier future could be just around the corner.
