Budget airline AirAsia canceled eight domestic flights on Tuesday after Kanlaon Volcano erupted at 2:55 a.m., spewing ash in what authorities described as a “moderately explosive” five-minute eruption at its summit crater.
The affected flights include Z2 603/604, Z2 8601/602, Z2 609/610 on the Manila-Bacolod-Manila route, and Z2 309/310 on the Manila-Iloilo-Manila route.
In an advisory, AirAsia warned that travelers headed to Cebu, Tagbilaran, and Iloilo may also experience delays as flight paths are being monitored for possible ash cloud coverage.
“Since this is a developing situation, guests flying to Cebu, Tagbilaran and Iloilo may also experience delays as the route to these destinations are closely monitored for any potential ash cloud coverage,” the airline said.
Passengers with canceled flights or those facing delays of more than three hours may rebook the same route within 30 days from their original schedule at no extra cost, subject to seat availability.
They may also opt for a full refund or retain the value of their booking in their BIG Member account, which can be used for future travel within two years from the issuance date.
