MANILA – The Philippines was represented at the recent Bar Convent Berlin as liquor brand Tanduay brought its renowned heritage and craftsmanship to the European spirits community.

Held Oct. 12 to 14 at Exhibition Centre Berlin in Germany, the annual event is the largest and leading global trade fair for the bar and beverage industries.

“We are proud to share an expression that embodies the excellence of Philippine rum-making and Tanduay’s expertise in rum production,” Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay International Business Development manager, said in a news release Friday.

“But beyond providing us an opportunity to introduce our premium rums to an international audience, the event gave us an important venue to connect with industry professional and potential partners across Europe.”

Tanduay Reserve Rum-20 Years, crafted from column-distilled rum made from sugarcane molasses, was unveiled at the event.

Tanduay’s Research and Development head Janno Gironella also hosted a masterclass and deepened the European visitors’ understanding of the Filipino brand’s various reserve rum products.

“We brought the Tanduay Rum Masterclass to Europe as part of our broader effort to educate international consumers about Philippine rums and establish a stronger appreciation for its distinctive qualities in the global spirits market,” Sumang said.

Tanduay presented a selection of Filipino-inspired cocktails that introduced local flavors and influences to an international crowd — Chief Lapu-Lapu, Toasted Coconut Ube Sours and the labuyo (small chili pepper)-inspired Prickly Pear.

“These cocktails demonstrate how Tanduay rum can serve as a foundation for creative drinks and also highlight the potential of Filipino ingredients and flavors,” Sumang said.

Bar Convent Berlin marked its 20th anniversary edition with some 11,000 trade visitors from 94 countries and over 400 exhibitors that strengthened business relationships and discussed the challenges and opportunities shaping the industry.

In 2027, the event is planning a more concentrated two-day format with an enhanced focus on business opportunities and curated content. (PR)
