8K cops to secure holiday season in Metro Manila

Close to 8,000 cops from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) have been deployed in strategic areas to secure Metro Manila during the holiday season.

NCRPO acting chief, Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, said on Thursday that police officers and allied security personnel were deployed in churches, malls, public markets, major thoroughfares, and transportation hubs.

“Ensuring a secure and joyous Yuletide Season is of utmost importance, and as we approach this festive time, NCRPO remains steadfast in its readiness and capability to achieve the peaceful and orderly celebration of Ligtas Paskuhan 2024 in Metro Manila,” Aberin said. Police assistance desks have been established to provide assistance and ensure swift emergency response.

Meanwhile, the NCRPO seized 3,047.63 grams of shabu and 1.1 grams of marijuana, valued at P20,724,016 and arrested 71 persons from a series of anti-drug operations from 6:00 a.m. on December 3 to 5:59 a.m. on December 4.

In illegal gambling operations, police arrested 133 persons from 49 operations and confiscated bets amounting to P33,765.

In its campaign against loose firearms, the NCRPO conducted 16 operations, resulting in the surrender or seizure of 17 firearms. Seventeen persons were arrested, with seven cases filed. (PNA)
