BUTUAN CITY – The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), together with the provincial government of Agusan del Norte and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), released PHP3.8 million worth of assistance to 59 former rebels (FRs) in the province on Thursday.

The support, consisting of financial, livelihood, and food assistance, is part of the government’s effort under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) to provide interventions to FRs as they peacefully return to their families and communities.

Agusan del Norte Governor Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante led the distribution of assistance to the FRs, assuring them of the government’s continuing support for their smooth transition back into mainstream society.

“I appeal to you to help us discourage others from joining these groups. You are living witnesses to what you have gone through,” Amante said during the turnover of the assistance.

She underscored the government’s responsibility to make sure that no one else suffers or becomes a victim of the same hardships the FRs experienced while inside the communist movement.

“Use the ECLIP financial assistance wisely for your fresh start, sustain your livelihood, and build a better future for your families,” Amante said.

In a separate statement, the Army’s 29th Infantry Battalion (29IB) lauded the FRs for choosing the path of peace.

“Thank you to everyone, especially to our awardees today. We are grateful that we are now together, working hand in hand to prevent further recruitment in our schools and communities. We ask for your continued support as we pursue peace and development in Agusan del Norte,” 29IB commander Lt. Col. Rodulfo Cordero Jr. said. (PNA)
