Four individuals were apprehended for dynamite fishing during a joint anti-illegal fishing operation in Panukulan, Quezon.
The Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog reported on Saturday that the suspects were caught in the act in Sitio Pulong Kiko, Barangay Libo, on Friday. They were on board a motorized fishing banca and attempted to flee by throwing their catch and fishing paraphernalia overboard.
Authorities were able to intercept the group and seized an unmarked motorized banca, compressor, diving gear, improvised fishing tools, and storage boxes—all valued at around P96,020.
The suspects will face charges for violating Municipal Fisheries Ordinance No. 02-2005, Section 19.15, which strictly prohibits the use of explosives in fishing.
