ILOILO CITY – Three public schools in Iloilo City inaugurated their new classroom worth PHP78.5 million on Thursday, in time for the opening of classes.
The three separate inauguration and turnover ceremonies were graced by Uswag Ilonggo Party-list Rep. James Ang Jr., whose office facilitated the inclusion of the projects in the 2024 General Appropriations Act.
The San Isidro Elementary School and the Iloilo Central Elementary School (ICES) each received a three-story, six-classroom building worth Php 23.5 million, while the Fort San Pedro National High School has a PHP31.5-million four-story, eight-classroom building project.
“This is the people’s money, and we are giving it back to them. Our shared commitment was able to make our dreams a reality. This place is where our dreams are built, futures are shaped, and the hopes of our children are molded,” Ang said in his message.
ICES Principal IV Gracia Malazarte, for her part, said their new building will keep their 325 Grade 6 learners safe and “can learn things for the whole school year.”
She hoped for an additional project, including the realization of the proposed laboratory section on the fourth floor of the building.
“This thing is actually enough for us, but if you could add more in order to make this standard, as it pertains to its ergonomics, I believe the children will have the opportunity to the next level of development and of course performance,” she said.
Ang said his office facilitated around Php 227.3 million worth of school projects for the province of Iloilo.
Each district in Iloilo City has been provided with a Php 23.5 million three-story, six-classroom building project.
The Iloilo National High School in La Paz district has a Php 46.8 million project for its bigger student population, while Php 31.5 million was provided to the Iloilo City National High School in Molo district. (PNA)
