26th Hot Air Balloon Festival Seen to Drive Tourism and Economic Growth in Tarlac

TARLAC CITY — New Clark City is preparing to host the 26th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) from February 13 to 15, 2026, an event expected to generate economic activity, attract tourists, and promote aviation awareness among the youth.

Held annually, the festival has long been a major draw for both local and international visitors, with its impact extending beyond the event grounds. Hotels, restaurants, tour operators, and small businesses in Tarlac and nearby areas traditionally benefit from the influx of festival-goers.

Governor Christian Tell Yap highlighted the positive ripple effect of the event on the province’s economy and communities.

“This event contributes both economically and socially. There is a clear trickle-down effect on hotels, tour operators, and local industries. It helps strengthen tourism and economic activity not only in Tarlac but across Central Luzon,” Yap said.

Dubbed “A Weekend of Everything that Flies,” the 2026 edition will feature 22 special-shaped hot air balloons from seven different countries, offering spectators a vibrant display in the skies over New Clark City.

Festival-goers can look forward to a range of attractions, including free morning balloon flights, a night glow spectacle, a 550-drone light show, and a hoverbike demonstration—a man-carrying flying drone developed by Filipino inventor Kyze.

The event will also showcase various aerial and aviation-related competitions such as Paragliding Accuracy, Paramotor Beach, FPV Drone Racing, Drone Soccer, Paper Airplane, and Kite Flying competitions.

Additional activities include remote-controlled airplane displays, interactive games, ultralight aircraft flights, and helicopter flight demonstrations by the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Navy, combining entertainment with educational experiences.

PIHABF Lead Organizer Captain Joy Roa emphasized that the festival also serves as a platform to spark interest in aviation careers among young people.

“We want to introduce children early to the idea of aviation as a career—whether in management, engineering, or administration. Events like this help educate the public, strengthen the industry, and open doors to future careers,” Roa said.

Meanwhile, Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Joshua Bingcang noted that the festival has become an anticipated annual highlight for the public.

“It reinforces New Clark City as a venue not only for sports but also for tourism. Every February, people look forward to seeing the balloons—it has become part of the public consciousness,” Bingcang said.

With its mix of spectacle, education, and economic opportunity, the 26th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta is set to once again bring color and excitement to the skies of New Clark City and reaffirm its standing as one of the country’s premier aviation and tourism events.
