2 MRT-3 stations hit by glitch amid free ride surge

Two stations on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) experienced a technical glitch Tuesday morning, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed, attributing the incident to a high volume of passengers during peak hours.

The disruption affected the Taft Avenue and Magallanes Stations. The timing coincided with a period of free rides offered on the MRT-3, Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1, and LRT Line 2, a directive issued by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. due to the impact of Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong).

In an advisory, the DOTr stated, “We sincerely ask for your understanding and patience as we experience high volume of passengers coinciding with the peak hours.”

Maintenance teams were immediately dispatched to perform safety checks and restore service. The DOTr later announced that the technical glitch at both stations was “fully resolved” by 8:55 a.m. Tuesday, and full operational efficiency was being restored.
