12-hour power interruption scheduled in parts of Albay

A 12-hour power interruption is scheduled for Saturday in parts of Albay, as announced by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP). The outage will affect some towns in the 3rd District served by the Albay Electric Cooperative (Aleco).

Joyce Balancio, NGCP lead specialist for government relations and regional affairs, stated that the brownout is set to occur from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on July 26. “As part of our maintenance and preventive measures, every five years we test the metering point equipment used in the Ligao-Polangui 69 kilovolt (kV) line,” she explained.

The metering equipment includes transformers and lightning arresters. Balancio emphasized that the goal of this maintenance work is to ensure that the transmission line operates normally and to prevent future power outages in some parts of Albay.

In a message to the Philippine News Agency, Aleco public information officer Anj Galero indicated that the power outage would affect Polangui, Libon, and portions of Oas and Ligao, all connected to the Polangui substation.

Galero also mentioned that parallel activities, such as massive line clearing and hot spot correction, would be conducted during the outage. “We will be doing parallel activities together once NGCP has a notice of schedule of power interruption so that we can do it together and not have to schedule separate interruptions,” she said.
