A modern jeepney emitting smoke while parked on the road, with a press release overlay indicating that the LTFRB will summon the operator over a road worthiness issue. The date on the announcement is October 31, 2026.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, has asked an operator of a modern jeepney for a complete explanation over the incident in Bulacan that showed one of its unit having mechanical problem in the middle of the road.

Acting LTFRB Chairman Atty. Greg G. Pua, Jr. said the SPTG Transport Service Cooperative will be issued with a show cause order that comes with an order to explain all the circumstances that led to the incident involving its unit.

In the video that went viral, the modern jeepney was shown moving back and forth in the middle of the road in San Jose Del Monte City while emitting a thick white smoke. The video went viral on social media.

“We are investigating if there were passengers inside. But even if there was none, that incident compromised the safety of other road users,” said Acting Chairman Pua.

“This incident goes down to the issue of whether or not proper maintenance is being done for that unit. We will investigate what happened and we will find out if the operator has been complying with the condition for them to ensure that all its units are roadworthy,” he added.

The LTFRB is seeking maintenance records of the unit involved and assured that it will check the other units by the involved operator.

Acting Chairman Pua expressed gratitude to the netizens for being the LTFRB’s partners in road safety and discipline by uploading their photos and videos on social media.

Through the uploaded contents, he said the LTFRB social media team is able to monitor them, which leads to immediate action from the agency.

Acting Chairman Pua then reminded all PUV operators to ensure safe and comfortable travel of their passengers, warning that any serious violation could lead to either suspension or cancellation of their Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC).
