NBA All-Star match-ups

In a thrilling showcase at the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend, San Antonio Spurs rookie Stephon Castle led Team Chris Mullin to victory in the Rising Stars Challenge, earning MVP honors and securing a spot in Sunday’s All-Star mini-tournament.

The event, held at the Chase Center in San Francisco, featured a new format: Four teams competed in a single-elimination tournament, with games played to a target score of 40 points in the semifinals and 25 points in the final.

Team C’s journey began with a 40-34 semifinal win over Team T, where Castle’s playmaking and defensive prowess were instrumental. In the championship game against Team G League, Team C overcame an early deficit, embarking on a 17-2 run to clinch a 25-14 victory.

Castle contributed 12 points in the final, while Utah Jazz’s Keyonte George sealed the game with a decisive three-pointer. Castle’s outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned him the MVP title.

The Rising Stars Challenge also highlighted emerging talents such as Houston Rockets’ Amen Thompson, who showcased his athleticism despite his team’s elimination. The event’s innovative format aimed to enhance competitiveness and entertainment value, setting the stage for the leading All-Star Game.

Looking ahead, Team C, now rebranded as “Team Candace” under coach Candace Parker, will face “Team Shaq” in the All-Star mini-tournament semifinals on Sunday. Team Shaq boasts seasoned All-Stars, including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant. The other semifinal will feature “Team Kenny” against “Team Chuck,” with the winners advancing to the championship game.

The 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend continues to captivate fans with its blend of rising talent and established superstars, promising an exciting conclusion with the upcoming All-Star mini-tournament.
