10 more filipinos repatriated from Cambodia amid online job scam warning

Ten more Filipinos have been safely repatriated from Cambodia, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced Sunday, renewing its warning against suspicious job offers circulating online.

The individuals, who were in Oddar Meanchey Province in northwestern Cambodia, returned home with assistance from Cambodian authorities and the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh.

Just last week, 26 Filipinos from the same province were also repatriated after requesting help. It remains unclear whether the latest group were victims of human trafficking.

“While always ready to extend prompt Assistance-to-Nationals service, the Philippine Embassy urges prudence and discernment among Filipino online job seekers,” the DFA said.

The repatriates were welcomed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 in Parañaque City by officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT).

Their return was funded through the Embassy’s Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Fund. The group endured a nine-hour land journey before reaching Phnom Penh, where the ATN team provided them with hot meals and care packages.

The Embassy also extended its gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its support and cooperation in the repatriation efforts.
