Unmask!

Dear mindful readers,

I hope you all are doing well and in your best disposition.

These past few months have indubitably been filled with so much fuss about politics. Faces with plastered smiles of politicians have already invaded lamp posts, walls, public utility vehicles, and even the “karitons” of our humble wastepickers. Their names have repeatedly echoed across the airwaves from all types of broadcast media aiming to emerge victorious through the “name recall” strategy. Mind you, it’s not even campaign season yet!

There is a breed of public servants whom you do not see very often, but you consistently feel their invisible presence thru the programs, projects and physical support that they bring to their constituents. Yet there is also the opposite kind whom you see frequently, nowadays in particular, shaking hands with everyone they meet, personally visiting houses, chika sa mga socials, fiesta fiesta pero sad to say na negligible naman ang panunungkulan because they have proven to serve only their interests instead of the needs of the people. Public service po tayo hindi self-service!

There are also a number of them who have been unmasked lately. Some have started their political careers with the simplest beginnings but who now seem to be brand ambassadors of luxury garments and accessories. Despite however the rocket rise to royalty, I feel sorry for (beep*) because it appears na kulang talaga cya dun sa itaas at hindi nga maka sagot objectively and with substance, sa mga katanungan ng kapwa nya public servant. Dear countrymen, why do we keep short changing have ourselves?

For those in high positions of power who parade themselves as righteous and free of sin even as their records reek of graft and corrupt practices, sana lang po, research research din muna before making statements that tend incriminate you and make you look more of a bitter gourd. Salamin! Salamin! 😂

There is also a neophyte provincial “punong bayan” who seemed to have quickly developed dementia and an unrelenting desire to quash even his strongest allies, yet fears retaliation from the ghosts he created in his sordid mind. It is just so sad that you have proven to be a huge disappointment to those who believed in you and placed their hopes in you as the “father” who should have looked after and taken care of them, instead of spending your days looking down on them from your pedestal. Now they can sense your darkness and smell that unholy stench miles away, even if you bathe in the most expensive perfume to mask your odor.

Let us not despair though as they are not all “wolves in sheep’s clothing”. One particular “lingkod bayan” I have known and observed through the years, regardless of his personal and political stature, has remained a servant of the people all his life. His cool and affable character amid challenges faced in delivering his sworn tasks and responsibilities, has brought tangible and intangible benefits to countless Filipino families. Walang “cordon sanitaire” na bago ka makarating sa kanya ay kailangan mong dumaan sa isang barangay ng executive assistants, secretaries, and security personnel. His advocacies focus on various issues that directly affect the quality of life of the public whom he faithfully serves. These include healthcare, public safety, infrastructure development, poverty reduction, and even disaster preparedness and response, emphasizing the need for better resources and support for communities affected by natural calamities.

Throughout his career, his simplicity, passion, grace under pressure, and candidness has brought pride and honor to his family's political legacy as he carved out his own path as a public servant.

Well I suppose knowing him almost half of my life has bestowed on me the grace to truthfully describe how he is as a person and as a public servant worthy of emulation.

Da who? Wag naaaaaaaaaa! 🤣🤣🤣 Like most of us who are, in one way or another, in whatever relationship or form, know them either as family, friends, or mere associates of the sort, we all have our personal thoughts and opinions of sizing them up. We may also share the same sentiments perhaps, but for different people in different circumstances.

Regardless of personal choices or proclivities in choosing our next generation of leaders, let us dig deep into our minds and weigh matters with a heart that sees their true and genuine passion to serve, not themselves and the favored few, but the majority who have placed their trust in them, yearning for an improved quality of life for their families.

WE have the power to choose our next leaders, SO let us choose wisely.

Love and light,

Iamempress22 ♥️
