LEGAZPI CITY – The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines-South Luzon (Area 3) is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM), as the group honors stories of determination and passion to create positive change in communities.
During the launch at the Casablanca Convention Center here on Friday, JCI Sen. and chairperson for the 2024 TOYM Alfredo Mondiguing Jr. said the awarding is an opportunity for every individual to be heard and seen, and to motivate others to create a large impact on nation-building.
He said this year's theme encapsulates effective leadership with a purpose-driven commitment to serving others for the betterment of society.
"If people like them are there, imagine the impact of pursuing others to do what they've seen. We want to motivate more young people, na kaya nila, kaya ko din ito (that if they can do it, so can I)," he said.
Mondiguing said gathering individuals with the same passion, dedication, and level of excellence can strengthen their advocacy and determination.
"If before you feel alone [in your fight and advocacy], suddenly you are surrounded by the same people you will be more inspired, to collaborate with... imagine what more they can do if they're together," he added.
He said nominees should be driven by a deep commitment to serve and uplift the nation.
TOYM is open to all Filipinos aged between 18 and 40 who have made significant contributions to their fields of expertise or communities.
Categories are Humanitarian Service and Social Work, Arts and Culture, Pure Sciences and Mathematics, Engineering, Agriculture and Other Applied Sciences, Education, Medicine, and Other Health Sciences and Services, Law, Public Service and Civic Work, Business and Economics, Sports, and Journalism and Mass Communications.
Submission of nominations is until Sept. 15. Selection, screening and judging will be from Sept. 16 to Oct. 31.
The presentation of honorees, gala dinner, and awards will take place in November. (PNA)
