Romualdez release of P20-M cash aid for Tondo fire victims

The Offices of Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez and Tingog Partylist led by Reps. Yedda K. Romualdez and Jude Acidre serve hot meals to Tondo fire victims at the General Vicente Lim Elementary School evacuation center on Sunday. Acting on the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Speaker and Tingog requested the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the immediate release of P20 million in cash assistance under its Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) to provide P10,000 to each affected family, aimed at helping them recover from the tragic incident. A relief mission in the area is also scheduled this Monday.

SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez and Tingog Partylist, acting on the directive of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr., have facilitated the request for the immediate release of P20 million in cash assistance to aid 2,000 families displaced by Saturday’s fire at Barangay 105 Aroma in Tondo, Manila.

The assistance, sourced from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP), will provide P10,000 to each affected family to help them recover from the tragic incident.

“We facilitated the request for the immediate release of P20 million for the families affected by the Tondo fire, following President Marcos’ directive. This financial aid, to be provided with the help of DSWD Sec. Rex Gatchalian, along with our ongoing relief efforts, will extend resources to help them rebuild their lives,” Speaker Romualdez said.

Alongside the cash aid, the Office of the Speaker, in partnership with Tingog Partylist led by Reps. Yedda K. Romualdez and Jude Acidre, spearheaded efforts on Sunday to distribute hot meals. Relief goods distribution is scheduled today (Sept. 16).

“We have also mobilized our calamity funds to ensure that these families not only receive financial support but also have access to food and other essential items,” Speaker Romualdez added.

House Deputy Secretary General Sofonias “Ponyong” P. Gabonada Jr. detailed the relief operations, which included serving 4,500 bowls of lugaw (porridge) and arroz caldo in the three evacuation centers.

“Hot meals, in coordination with the office of Manila 1st District Rep. Ernesto ‘Ernix’ Dionisio Jr., were given to the victims to ensure that families have something to eat during this difficult time,” Gabonada said.

“We prepared 2,500 servings of lugaw and arroz caldo for General Vicente Lim Elementary School evacuation center, and 1,000 servings each for Barangay 105 and Barangay 106 covered courts,” he added.

Dionisio expressed his deep gratitude to President Marcos, Speaker Romualdez, and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian for their swift response in providing much-needed assistance to the fire victims of Barangay 105 Aroma.

"On behalf of the people of Tondo, I sincerely thank President Marcos, Speaker Romualdez, and Secretary Gatchalian for their unwavering support and quick action in addressing the needs of our fire-affected residents. Their leadership and compassion have been vital in helping the community recover from this tragic incident," Dionisio said.

This Monday, the relief operations aim to assist 2,000 families displaced by the fire, ensuring immediate access to food and other essentials.

The fire in Barangay 105 Aroma displaced thousands of residents, triggering an immediate and coordinated response from national and local government units to deliver critical assistance.

Gabonada expressed hope that the financial aid from the Marcos administration and relief efforts, spearheaded by Speaker Romualdez and Tingog Partylist of Reps. Yedda Romualdez and Acidre, will help provide sustained support to the victims as they recover from the fire tragedy.
