Prudence - An Art Exhibit by 29 Kapitolyo Art Space

Artistic activity can be profoundly significant, yet it can also be as commonplace and overlooked as a diluted gaze.

Here we present a compelling exploration of prudence as both a subject and a participant in the artistic process. Prudence, traditionally a guiding virtue in the pursuit of moral and aesthetic integrity, is here engaged in a dialogue with diverse expressions of what artists consider significant, valuable, and true.

Prudence is portrayed as a force rooted in tradition, representing a time when every artistic act was carefully measured against ideals of goodness and truth. This serves as the grounding perspective from which the rest of the exhibit unfolds, offering a stable reference point amidst the varying interpretations of artistic value.

In prescience we encounter works that challenge conventional standards by embracing the familiar yet provocative; with their bold themes and unconventional aesthetics, question whether prudence should maintain its traditional judgments or recognize the value in art that deliberately subverts expectations. Here, prudence is called to decide whether it can appreciate the significance in what might appear irreverent or disruptive.

In this context, prudence must reconsider its criteria for value—can it find virtue in the directness and emotional authenticity of these works, or does it remain uneasy with their lack of refinement?  These pieces, born from unique perspectives, challenge prudence to expand its understanding of what is valuable in art.

Here, prudence faces its most abstract challenge: applying its moral and aesthetic judgments to art that is primarily intellectual. In this space, prudence must decide whether it can adapt to this more abstract form of significance or whether it remains tied to the tangible and the concrete.

Through this dialogue, the exhibit explores whether prudence can evolve alongside the ever-changing landscape of art or if it remains a relic of a more controlled and measured era.
