President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday expressed gratitude to Swedish Ambassador Annika Thunborg for supporting the Philippines.
The outgoing envoy paid a farewell call on President Marcos on Tuesday at Malacañan Palace.
“Thank you very much for all that you have done — bringing our two countries closer together,” President Marcos said to Thunborg during the farewell call.
“I have to once again express our gratitude for the support that you’ve shown to the Philippines in terms of the problems, challenges that we are facing here,” President Marcos said.
Thunborg, for her part, discussed her three wonderful years in the Philippines.
The Swedish ambassador also highlighted the importance of forging strong partnerships with like-minded partners.
Thunborg presented her Letter of Credence as Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Philippines in October 2021.
Prior to her appointment, Thunborg was previously assigned to Mexico and the Swedish Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Geneva.
Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Sweden were established on January 17, 1947.
Accompanying the President were Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Frederick Go, Deputy Assistant Secretary Lenna Eilleen De Dios-Sison, and Director Ferdinand Flores of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Office of European Affairs.
