The government will continue monitoring Typhoon Julian as it approaches super typhoon strength, as forecast by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The state weather bureau said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 may be raised over Northern Luzon.
“I was supposed to go to Ilocos yesterday (Sunday) pero wala na. Iyong weather, sumama na nang husto bagsak ng ulan. So, we ‘re just watching it and seeing what will be needed pagkatapos [ng] pagdaan ng bagyo,” President Marcos told reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the StB Giga Factory in Tarlac on Monday.
“We’re still having to wait for the water to come down and to do everything for the water to come down. Pero hindi pa ito… Mag-intensify pa ito. So we have to watch,” he said.
PAGASA reported that Typhoon Julian packs maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph.
On Monday morning, it was reported that Julian was moving north-northwest at 10 kph and located off Sabtang Island, Batanes. | PND
