P984.2M earmarked for DOLE’s youth employment program

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) received PhP984.2 million for its Youth Employability Programs under the fiscal year 2025 National Expenditure Program (NEP), the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said on Thursday.

In a press briefing in Malacañang, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said DOLE’s Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) got an allocation of PhP828.9 million, while its Job Start Program (JSP) received PhP155.2 million.

“Nagkaroon po ito ng substantial na increase of 84 percent from last year’s budget dahil ito po… iyon, PhP449 (million) po ang naging increase dito,” Pangandaman said of the allocation for student and youth employability.

In his third State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. mentioned the concerted efforts of different agencies to boost the potential and employability of young Filipinos.

President Marcos received the PhP6.352-trillion NEP for fiscal year 2025 from DBM on Wednesday. He said the NEP was created with utmost “care, diligence, and meticulous attention.”

The 2025 NEP, increasing by 10.1 percent from this year’s PhP5.758 trillion budget, aims to prioritize food security, social protection, housing, infrastructure, health care, disaster resilience, digital connectivity, and energization.

It also aligns with the key priorities of the Philippine Development Plan for 2023 to 2028, focusing on developing and protecting the capabilities of individuals and families; transforming production sectors to generate more quality jobs and competitive products; and creating an enabling environment.
