P87.5 lost in afgri, infra in Pangasinan due to Enteng

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – Severe Tropical Storm Enteng left the province of Pangasinan with some PHP18 million worth of partial damage to agriculture, including livestock and fishery, and PHP69.5 million to infrastructure, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

Most of the damage to agriculture were on palay (rice) amounting to PHP13.8 million followed by corn, PHP2.1 million; high-value crops, PHP1.4 million; livestock, PHP486,00; and fishery, PHP210,000, PDRRMO Emergency Operations Center assistant director Pia Flores said in a phone interview Friday.

Based on the report submitted by the local government units, most of the affected livestock were goats and most of the mortalities were due to hypothermia, she said.

“These are partial damages and for further validation by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist,” she added.

Flores said PHP69.5 million worth of partial damage in infrastructure was mostly dilapidated asphalt pavements due to heavy rainfall or soil erosion.

The southwest monsoon continues to bring moderate to heavy rains in the province, hence the PDRRMO remains on red alert and is monitoring the water level of its major river systems.

As of noontime Friday, the Marusay River in Calasiao town is now above critical level; Sinucalan River in Sta. Barbara town, Balincaguing River in Mabini town and the Agno/Bañaga River in Bugallon town are above normal level; but the Bued/Cayanga River in San Fabian town is still below normal level.

Flores said some areas in Binmaley, Lingayen, and Calasiao towns remained flooded of between two to three-feet deep.

She said they are verifying reports about flooded areas in Labrador, Mangatarem and Aguilar towns. (PNA)
