No deportation of babies - BI

MANILA –The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Sunday clarified it does not deport babies.

The BI issued the statement following reports that a newborn was included in the batch of 33 persons deported on Thursday.

Commissioner Norman Tansingco explained that the bureau assisted in the easy departure of the child after the parents were deported.

The baby is the child of a female worker of Smart Web Technology, which was raided late last year by joint agents of the BI and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission.

“We have waived other requirements to allow the smooth travel of the child,” he said in a press release.

Meanwhile, the BI reported the deportation of three Vietnamese minors, who were found to have presented stolen German passports, on July 21; while another who was intercepted attempting to depart for Canada was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development for assistance before his flight back to Vietnam on Aug. 3.
