Navy staff found dead in new Senate Building

MANILA – The Philippine Navy (PN) on Friday said an investigation is underway into the death of one of its civilian kitchen staff members in Taguig City.

In a statement, PN spokesperson Commander John Percie Alcos said the civilian staff was found dead inside the New Senate Building located in Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Taguig City, near the Bonifacio Naval Station (BNS), on Thursday night.

Alcos said the deceased worked in one of the dining facilities inside the BNS.

“The Philippine Navy is also conducting a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event. At this moment, we cannot disclose the identity of the kitchen staff involved in this tragedy, as the family has not yet been notified,” Alcos said.

The Senate confirmed the death in the building that is still under construction.

“It is with deep sorrow and concern that we confirm the tragic incident that occurred last night involving an individual who fell from the construction site of the new Senate building,” Senate spokesperson Arnel Bañas said in a statement.

He said the victim entered the construction site Thursday night as workers were leaving the building.

“The deceased was reportedly chased by a companion and the security guards but could not be found. The security team searched the area and reviewed the CCTV (closed-circuit television) but were not able to locate the person,” Bañas said.

Alcos, meanwhile, extended condolences to the deceased’s family.

“The Philippine Navy is ready to assist all those affected by this tragic event and will fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies during the conduct of the investigation,” he added. (PNA)
