The centralized cooling system at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 will shut down for 12 hours on July 16 until the morning the next day, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Monday.
Passengers should expect warm temperature inside the airport from 9 p.m. on July 16 until 9 a.m. on July 17 as the airport management upgrades the terminal's cooling system.
"While mitigating measures will be in place during this 12-hour window, the public is hereby advised to expect elevated temperature inside NAIA Terminal 3 during the installation," an advisory posted on NAIA's Facebook page on Monday said.
About 27,000 passengers of 117 flights will be affected by the cooling system works.
Reduced air circulation is expected and MIAA said the medical team "will be on high alert and ready to respond to any medical emergency."
The MIAA said areas affected are the check-in counters, immigration departure, final security checks for domestic and international flights, baggage carousels for international and domestic arrivals, and the arrival lobby.
"Stand-alone air conditioning units will be deployed in various areas of the terminal for spot cooling as backup," it added.
MIAA said six new cooling towers will be installed and the main piping lines of the chiller plant will be connected to the new cooling tower piping.
Last April, three of six cooling towers at NAIA Terminal 3 reportedly bogged down, apparently due to electricity overload.
In March, passengers had to deal with the warm temperature inside NAIA Terminal 2, when a series of power fluctuations hit the terminal.
