A multi-purpose vehicle driver was shot dead along the southbound lane of the EDSA-Ayala tunnel in Makati City on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Makati City Police, 65-year-old Aniceto Mateo was killed around 2:30 p.m. The suspect was driving a black Mercedes Benz with the plate number BCS77.

Mateo was traveling in a white Toyota Innova with passengers Marites Valmorio, 47, and a minor, heading toward Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City, when the incident occurred.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority temporarily closed the area to motorists following the shooting.

Police described the incident as a case of road rage.

The suspect in the Mercedes Benz used an unknown firearm to shoot at the moving Toyota Innova. The bullet pierced the right passenger window, went through the back right shoulder of Mateo, and exited through the left window, causing his instantaneous death.

Despite being shot, Mateo managed to maneuver the vehicle to the right corner of the EDSA Ayala tunnel, where Valmorio sought help from other motorists.

The forensic team recovered a fired cartridge at the scene, which will undergo ballistic examination

The authorities are now coordinating with the Land Transportation Office to validate the owner of the black Mercedes Benz.
