Meralco response teams ready to restore power in Carina-affected areas

Manila Electric Company's response teams are on full alert to respond quickly to emergencies and restore power in regions affected by Typhoon Carina.

In addition, the power distributor is monitoring flooded areas. Meralco vice president and head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga said flooding in the impacted locations often causes power disruptions.

“We are also closely monitoring the flooded areas. Our teams will immediately be deployed to restore power service once floods subside in the affected areas,” Zaldarriaga added.

Meralco said that, as of 9:00 AM on Wednesday, around 23,000 customers in Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, and portions of Laguna, Batangas, Bulacan, and Quezon had been affected by service interruptions due to the typhoon.

Zaldarriaga advised Meralco consumers to check if the main electrical power switch or circuit breaker is off and dry when checking any electrical facility and electrical wires, connectors, wiring devices, and accessories.

Appliances should be unplugged and any connected equipment should be turned off.

Rubber gloves and rubber-soled shoes should be utilized to wipe mud and filth from service equipment or the main circuit breaker/fuse enclosure.

Meralco further advised residents to only switch on flood-damaged electrical appliances once a certified electrician has checked all electrical lines.

“We urge everyone to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions during this time,” Zaldarriaga added.
