Meralco powers STT Telemedia's hyperscaling digital innovation

Meralco Energy, Inc. (MSERV) selected to install electrical facilities at STT GDC Philippines’ largest hyperscale data center in Fairview, Quezon City.

Hyper data requires hyper power.

Manila Electric Company's unit, Meralco Energy, Inc. (MSERV), will energize the country's largest data center, ST Telemedia Global Data Center (STT GDC Philippines), bringing the Philippines closer to becoming a center of innovation and digital data in the Southeast Asian region.

"We are on track for significant progress by the third quarter of this year and anticipate completing the core structure and energizing power equipment for the data center. This will be a major milestone and demonstrates our ability to deliver on this project," STT GDC Philippines president and CEO Carlo Malana said in a recent event with One Meralco.

The STT GDC Philippines is poised to become a pivotal hub for global hyperscalers and diverse customer segments. The STT Fairview data center campus, with an impressive IT capacity of 124MW, is set to be the largest, most interconnected, carrier-neutral, and sustainable data center campus in the country. Operations are slated to commence in early 2025.

It is envisioned to empower the Filipino workforce, thereby ensuring that the Philippines remains at the forefront of the digital curve.

The collaboration between STT GDC and MSERVE will foster innovation and drive technological advancement in the digital industry, which will pave the way for the energization of the facility this year.

In November last year, MSERV was awarded the contract for the supply and installation of key data center electrical equipment, such as high-voltage gas-insulated switch gears, high-voltage oil-immersed transformers, and medium-voltage dry-type transformers.

"Meralco's commitment to providing reliable power is a significant factor in our selection for our STT Fairview data center project," said Pierre San Diego, STT GDC Philippines' head of Design and Construction. "This collaboration goes beyond just securing electricity; it fuels a shared vision for a transformative digital future that unlocks innovation and growth across the nation."

STT GDC Philippines is a joint venture among Globe Telecom Inc., Ayala Corporation, and Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC). It strategically operates data centers in Metro Manila, Cavite, and Davao.

As one of the largest energy service companies in the country that offers tailor-fit end-to-end energy solutions, MSERV is looking to deepen its collaboration with STT GDC Philippines.

"With MSERV as your partner, we go beyond traditional offerings of after-the-meter facilities and electrical works. We also recognize the critical role of energy efficiency in promoting a clean, safe, and sustainable environment for data center facilities. We are ready to deliver customized energy efficiency solutions to meet your unique requirements," MSERV president and CEO Ronald R. Torres said.

"MSERV is deeply committed to our ongoing partnership. Together, we are not just providers of data center services but digital enablers towards a progressive future. We hope to continue playing a significant role in fostering innovation and driving technological advancement to new heights," Torres added.

Backed by Meralco's energy expertise, MSERV provides quality electrical and energy efficiency solutions to support the digital industry. The government is pushing the country to become the next hyper scaler hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
