Manila LGU seeks donations for fire victims

MANILA – The city government of Manila is seeking donations for the nearly 2,000 families who have been displaced by recent fires.

In a statement Tuesday, Mayor Honey Lacuna said the donations will go a long way to help the affected residents rebuild their lives.

The donations may be coursed through the office of the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), she said.

Donations may also be dropped off at the Kartilya ng Katipunan beside the Manila City Hall. MDRRMO and MDSW staff will be manning the site to receive donations.

Lacuna said all contributions to support the families who have been adversely affected by these fires would be highly appreciated.

The local government has initially provided basic needs such as food, as well as temporary shelter to the affected residents.

On the other hand, Lacuna assured that the Manila City Council, under Vice Mayor and presiding officer Yul Servo, is passing the needed measures to provide the fire victims substantial assistance.

She said that considering the huge amount entailed owing to the number of families affected, the provision of monetary assistance must pass through the proper processes since it involves government funds.

A fire hit a residential area at the Aroma housing site in Barangay 105 in Vitas, Tondo shortly before noon on Sept. 14.

At about 2:33 p.m. of the same day, another fire broke out along Mayhaligue St.

No casualties were reported from these incidents. (PNA)
