Lawmakers rally behind IBP, urge Quiboloy’s surrender

Lawmakers have rallied in full support of the recent statement issued by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Davao City Chapter urging embattled Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and his co-accused to surrender peacefully and submit to the rule of law.

1-Rider Party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez commended the IBP-Davao City Chapter for issuing a “bold and necessary call,” underscoring its crucial role in ensuring that justice is served swiftly and without obstruction.

“This is not just about following the law; it’s about showing respect for our justice system and ensuring that due process is carried out fairly. I urge Pastor Quiboloy to heed this call and demonstrate his respect for the rule of law by submitting to the judicial process,” Gutierrez, a lawyer, said.

Assistant Majority Leader Jil Bongalon, also a lawyer himself, echoed this sentiment stating that the rule of law is non-negotiable in a democracy.

“The rule of law is the foundation of our democracy, and no one is above it. The IBP’s statement is a clear reminder that justice must prevail, regardless of who is involved,” Bongalon said.

He added: “I fully support the IBP Davao’s call for a peaceful surrender by Pastor Quiboloy and his co-accused. Let us all abide by the legal processes that safeguard the rights of every citizen and uphold the integrity of our courts.”

Deputy Majority Leader Jude Acidre commended the IBP for taking a strong stand on this critical issue.

“I commend the Davao City Chapter of the IBP for their strong stand on the importance of the rule of law. Their call for Pastor Quiboloy and his co-accused to surrender peacefully is a crucial step in ensuring that justice is served,” he said.

“It is imperative that all individuals, regardless of their position, comply with the law and allow our judicial system to function as it should,” Acidre pointed out.

Deputy Majority Leader and Iloilo 1st District Rep. Janette Garin emphasized the importance of accountability in maintaining public trust in the legal system.

“The IBP’s insistence on a peaceful surrender by Pastor Quiboloy and his co-accused underscores the importance of accountability in our legal system,” Garin said.

She continued, “We cannot allow anyone to evade justice. I join the IBP in calling on Pastor Quiboloy to respect the law and to surrender voluntarily so that the truth can be uncovered through proper legal channels."

Deputy Majority Leader and PBA Party-list Rep. Margarita “Atty. Migs” Nograles, stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law to maintain public trust and ensure justice.

“The IBP Davao’s statement is a clear call to uphold the rule of law in our country. Pastor Quiboloy and his co-accused must surrender peacefully, as the law requires,” Nograles said.

“Our legal system must be allowed to operate without hindrance, and it is crucial that those accused of crimes face the charges against them in a court of law,” she added.

The IBP’s statement comes amid increasing tension surrounding the enforcement of arrest warrants against Quiboloy, who faces serious charges including child abuse and human trafficking.

The IBP highlighted the critical importance of adhering to legal processes and respecting the authority of the courts, while also cautioning against any attempts to obstruct justice.

The group’s call for a peaceful surrender is seen as vital in maintaining social order and upholding the integrity of the judicial system.
