Lakers to Begin NBA Cup Title Defense Against Spurs on Nov. 15By

Kevin Reynaldo

Los Angeles Lakers will start their NBA Cup title defense on November 15 in San Antonio, facing Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.

This game marks the beginning of the group play phase for the NBA Cup, which will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays from November 12 to December 3. The NBA released the group play schedule on Tuesday, assigning each team to a five-team group where they will play the other four teams in their group once.

This format ensures that each team has a fair chance to compete and advance based on their performance within their group.

A notable storyline is Klay Thompson’s return to Golden State on November 12, this time as a visitor with the Dallas Mavericks.

Thompson, who was instrumental in the Warriors’ four championships, joined the Mavericks this summer, adding extra excitement to the matchup. His return to the Chase Center is highly anticipated, as fans and former teammates will witness him in a different jersey for the first time. This game is expected to be emotionally charged, given Thompson’s significant contributions to the Warriors’ success over the years.

Last season, the Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, went undefeated in the tournament, then known as the In-Season Tournament, and clinched the title by defeating the Indiana Pacers in the final held in Las Vegas. Their perfect 7-0 record showcased their dominance and ability to perform under pressure.

This year, the Lakers aim to replicate their success and defend their title, with James and Davis continuing to lead the charge. The team’s performance in the group stage will be crucial in setting the tone for their campaign to retain the NBA Cup.
