Junior Altas book q'finals berth in U-19 NextGen Basketball League

MANILA – University of Perpetual Help System DALTA clobbered Jose Rizal University, 105-59, to secure the first quarterfinal berth in the Under-19 Next Generation Basketball League (NGBL) at the Aero Center in Quezon City on Saturday.

Jan Daniel Pagulayan delivered 19 points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals as the Las Piñas-based squad notched its fifth straight win in Group A.

”First of all, what we prepared in this game is defense,” said Pagulayan as the Junior Altas forced their opponents to commit 26 turnovers.

“We just focused on defense. On offense, the plays will come, and coach [Jeoph Cleopas] told us to just invest on defense.”

Perpetual also made 30 assists, 20 steals and seven blocks.

AJ Lacusong and CJ Satparam finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Light Bombers, who absorbed their third loss against two wins.

Meanwhile, San Beda University defeated Letran, 95-87, to stay in second place with 3-1 in Group B.

Randaile Medroso paced the Red Cubs with 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Daniel Padilla, on the other hand, scored 19 points on top of three rebounds for the Squires, who are in fourth place at 2-2.

In the other game, Nazareth School of National University snapped Mapua University's three-game roll with an 84-52 win.

UAAP Season 86 Juniors MVP Collins Akowe had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Bullpups, while Sean Salvador led the Red Robbins with 12 points and three steals. (PNA)
