Hackers breached the websites of Philippine companies in May and the first week of June, taking an unspecified amount of data, the National Privacy Commission (NPC) said in a statement.
According to the NPC, car manufacturer Toyota reported a data breach to the agency on May 14, while real estate firm Robinsons Land was attacked on June 1.
"We encourage data subjects who believe they may be part of any breach to contact the data protection officers of the respective companies and report the same to the NPC," the statement said.
In addition, the NPC said the Philippine National Police also reported six data breaches filed before the police in May.
According to the NPC, their anti-cybercrime unit monitors the situation to prevent data breaches and ensure security and privacy protection.
The NPC also reminded companies processing personal data to notify affected data subjects individually and make a report via the Data Breach Notification Management System (DBNMS) within 72 hours of discovering a breach.
