Gov’t closely monitoring Taal Volcano eruption — PBBM

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday assured that the government is closely monitoring the Taal Volcano eruption.

He said the government is following standard operating procedures amid the changing behavior of the volcano.

Reports said the volcano erupted Wednesday afternoon. However, the President said he was informed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) that the volcano’s eruption is still manageable.

On the sidelines of the LAB for ALL caravan in Pasig City, President Marcos told the Malacañang Press Corps that all concerned government agencies are on top of the situation to ensure public safety.

“We have SOPs in place. We have standard [operating] procedures. Everybody, when the volcano erupts, or the storm comes, or magkalindol or whatever, they know what to do,” President Marcos said in referring to concerned government agencies.

The President made the remarks when asked about the government’s response to the volcano’s eruption.

“What we have to do is monitor the situation and continue to see where are the areas kasi not every situation is the same. So, how do we adjust? Where are the areas that need special attention, where are the areas that are okay. So, ‘yun ang ginagawa namin ngayon,” he added.

President Marcos expressed confidence that the people closely monitoring the volcano eruption are experts in their field and knowledgeable enough to respond to any circumstances that may arise. | PND
