Gov’t assures continued support for employees displaced by online gaming closure

The government touted continuous support and assistance to workers affected by the closure of Internet Gaming Licensees (IGLs) covered by the presidential ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) last July 22, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Thursday.

In a Macalañang Insider interview, DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma reported that aside from conducting job fairs, they are currently profiling the affected workers to determine the necessary assistance.

Laguesma said the companies are closely cooperating with DOLE by providing lists of displaced personnel in need of help.

The Labor official also assured that many jobs are available, noting that many employers utilize the PhilJobNet to find workers.

Laguesma added the government will also offer more assistance, particularly on employment facilitation for available job vacancies and orientation on livelihood programs or projects.

It is also providing upskilling or reskilling opportunities for workers to attain much more quality jobs. PND
